This tour and trek is the shortest version, only 4 days to visit several destinations such as, the Humantay Lagoon, open the Salkantay, Machu Picchu.

This option is excellent for those adventurers who want to do the Salkantay and Machu Picchu trek in 4 days. You will enjoy the mountains, lagoons, glaciers and jungle and much more. The only difference between the 5 day programme is that you don’t have time to visit the thermal baths of Santa Teresa and there is no time to trek to the Inca site of Llactapata to see Machu Picchu a day earlier.

Tips and advice.

A backpack to carry water, snacks, camera, sunblock, valuables, jacket, mackintosh, etc. We recommend bringing a 25-30 litre rucksack, but if you wish, you can bring a backpack or any size rucksack as long as you feel comfortable with it.
Sleeping bag minimum minus 5 degrees. If you don’t have one, you can rent one from us for USD 10 for the whole trek.
Trekking poles – We recommend for people with knee or ankle problems or who are used to using trekking poles. If you do NOT have one, you can rent a pair of trekking poles for USD 10 from us.
Original passports.

3-4 T-shirt, if you have long sleeves better.
Layers (jumper, fleece).
2-3 pairs of long trousers if you have leggings, you can do it with leggings.

If you have thermal clothing you can take it with you which is not so important, you will use it at least the first night which is at 4000m.

IMPORTANT: Remember that we will give you a duffel bag on the day of the briefing that you can use to pack 7 kilos of your personal belongings that you will take on the trek which will be carried on horseback throughout the trek. This means that you will hike carrying your small backpack with the things you need for the day’s hike and you will have access to the duffel bag at each campsite.

Itinerary

A.M.   | CUSCO – SORAYPAMPA
Pick up around 5:00 am at your respective hotel and then head towards the town of Mollepata in our tourist transport for approximately 2 hours. Once in Mollepata, we will stop for a delicious breakfast and also pay an entrance fee of 10 soles to the local municipality of Mollepata for nationals and 20 soles for foreigners, then we continue in our transport for another hour to Soraypampa. Here we will meet the horse and pony boys who will carry all the luggage, food and the 7 kilos of belongings of each trekker. We start the hike uphill to the Humantay Lake (4220 m.a.s.l.) for 1h 30 minutes. We will arrive at the impressive Humantay Lagoon (4220 masl) where we can appreciate the turquoise colour of the lagoon and the snowy Apu Humantay, you will have enough time to explore, photograph the place and the guide will explain you all the meaning of the Humantay Lagoon. After a couple of hours at the lagoon we will start to descend to Quiswarniyoc camp which is an exclusive camp, for 1 hour to have a healthy lunch. After lunch, you will have free time to explore the beautiful area if you want more hiking, you can go to the Salkantay viewpoint to enjoy a panoramic view of the whole region. If you are tired, you can rest in the place and then we will have our delicious dinner prepared by our chef, finally we will move to our tents or sleeping tents.

A.M: | SORAYPAMPA, PASO SALKANTAY, CHAULLAY
The second day of trekking is the most difficult because it takes you up to 4630 m.a.s.l. The cooks will wake you up around 5:00 am with a cup of hot mate de coca or muña, then you will have time to pack and prepare for the nutritious breakfast which is served around 5:45 am. Then it is time to start walking to the highest point of the Salkantay trail, which has an altitude of 4630 m.a.s.l. it takes 3 to 4 hours, all uphill at a regular and slow pace. Once you are at the highest point, you will have time to enjoy the mountains, to take pictures and the guide will teach you about the gods and spirits of the mountain, you will also be part of an Andean ritual for the Apus the gods of the mountain. Then you start walking down for 2 hours to wayracmachay the lunch place to rest and enjoy a delicious lunch. Afterwards you continue walking for three more hours to the second camp, which is Chaullay, where we provide you with camping equipment, tea time and dinner, also if you wish, you can rent a hot water shower from the locals and you can also buy some drinks.the camp is called Chaullay and is located at 2900m right at the beginning of the jungle brow area of the Peruvian Amazon.

A.M: | CHAULLAY, LA PLAYA, HIDROELÉCTRICA, AGUAS CALIENTES
Very early after breakfast we will start the hike around 7:30 am from Chaullay to the sahuayaco beach for approximately 5 hours along the Santa Teresa Valley which is formed by the Salkantay River. Along the valley, you have the opportunity to see plantations such as coffee, bananas, avocados, coca, passion fruit and much more. Once there we will take a car to hydroelectric for an hour and a half approximately, then we will have our lunch, and from there we will walk for 2 hours approximately. We will be picked up by the transfer to take us to the hotel and after having a bath we can visit the town, then we will have dinner around 7:00 pm in a restaurant in Aguas Calientes and we will receive information to visit Machu Picchu the next day.

A.M: | AGUAS CALIENTES, MACHU PICCHU, CUSCO
Before sunrise around 4:00 am we will get our gear ready and after our box breakfast we will start the hike up to Machu Picchu, the hike will follow an ascending trail that crosses the high jungle, just in time to see the spectacular sunrise. After passing the checkpoint around 7:00 am, our group will have a 2 hour 30 minute guided tour of the Inca city of Machu Picchu, then passengers will be able to enjoy Machu Picchu on their own. The time you will spend in Machu Picchu will depend on how you like to return to Cusco and will also depend on whether you want to climb Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu mountain which must be booked in advance. On the fourth day you must return to Cusco after visiting Machu Picchu and we offer you 2 options to return to Cusco, you can do it BY TRAIN or optionally BY BUS. The Salkantay Trek ends in San Francisco Square, Cusco.

TRAIN OPTION: If you like to take this option to return to Cusco you can be in Machu Picchu around 5 to 6 hours and also have enough time to climb HUAYNAPICCHU or MACHU PICCHU mountain, the train option may suit your plans better. From Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes you can walk 1.5 hours or you can take a bus down for 30 minutes and the bus costs 12 dollars each way. Once in Aguas Calientes you have time for lunch and visit the town of Aguas Calientes, in the evening you will take the train at 18:20 or 19:00 pm to Ollantaytambo for 1.5 hours and then from Ollantaytambo to Cusco we will take you in our tourist transport for 2 more hours and we will leave you as the final point of the tour in the San Francisco square which is 2 blocks from the Plaza de Armas.

CART OPTION: If you want to take this option, you can be in Machu Picchu until 11:00 am and usually enter Machu Picchu around 6:00 or 7:00 am for the guided tour, then you also have time to go to the sun gate or the Inca bridge. After visiting Machu Picchu for 3 to 4 hours you need to walk 3 hours from Machu Picchu to Hidroeléctrica from there you will take our tourist transport back to Cusco for 6 hours. The meeting time in Hidroeléctrica is from 2:30 to 3:00 pm. And we leave you in the San Francisco square which is 2 blocks from the Plaza de Armas in the city of Cusco.
